Best Effort: In a perfect world, children would give 100% effort all of the time. Realistically, this doesn't always happen. Children tend to give up, lose interest, or get sloppy on the task at hand. In this month’s character lesson, we are going to help children understand the value if putting forth their best effort. We are also going to show them how to give their best effort towards important tasks.

Team Canada Medal Winners!

Did you know that Toronto has placed a bid to host the 2015 Pan Am Games?  Will your Champion be there??

Best Effort: Here is a guideline regarding children and giving their best effort based on age:

With children ages 3 and 4; they are starting to show pride in what they do. Teach them how to not give up easily by constantly supporting them.

- With children ages 5 and 6; they are very eager to please others with their efforts. Teach them how to be realistic with their efforts and not aim over their capabilities. For example: they can't do 1,000 push-ups in one-minute even though they may want to.

- With children ages 7 and 9; things are starting to become easier for them. Teach them how to not be sloppy just because something is easy.

- With children ages 10 and up; they can accomplish almost any age-appropriate task as long as they put forth effort. Teach them how to give their best effort by seeking opportunities to excel above and beyond what is expected.

Personal Health: Childhood is the time when children begin to build habits related to hygiene, healthy eating, exercising, as well as learning how to have a healthy mind. As Martial Arts instructors, we have the opportunity to influence a positive foundation on personal health in children. Let your students “catch” you eating fruits and exercising during the month. Keep in mind, the best way to teach is to lead by example, so if your students see you eating healthy foods and exercising then they will be more likely to follow your lead!

Help tomorrow's leaders build personla health and the benefits will be immeasurable.

Theme of the month: Best Effort

Giving children a definition of failure that takes away the fear liberates them from that fear. It also frees them to strive for success without reservation, to explore, take risks, and vigorously pursue their dreams. Children will know in their hearts that some failure is okay and in no way a negative reflection on themselves as people.

“Satisfaction lies in the effort, not in the attainment, full effort is full victory.

~ Mahatma Gandhi

Dear Parents,

This month we will be focusing on children giving their best effort in three areas of life - Family, School & Martial Arts (in that order.)

Children develop attitudes towards putting forth their best effort based on the people that are significant in their lives. As Martial Arts instructors, we have the opportunity to positively influence our students to put forth their best effort on the regular bases simply by encouraging them to do so. Children who have the support and encouragement of adults and role models tend to feel better about their self and therefore will try harder at the task at hand.
